8-3 Clippers head into holidays ranked #8 in NWAC

Clipper men's basketball is officially on holiday break after finishing 2-1 at the Skagit Valley Crossover Tournament in Mt. Vernon. Sophomore Wes Reynolds was named Tournament MVP, followed by sophomore AJ Hodges and freshman Demonte Malloy who were named to the All-Tournament Team.

The Clippers stand 8-3 after playing ten of their first 11 games on the road.  Last week SPSCC appeared in the NWAC Coaches Poll as the #8 team in the NWAC (December 12). Head Coach Aaron Landon said of the poll,"The rankings don't mean much until February, but I'm pleased with our growth over the last month and I'm happy our record is good enough where we can be ranked."

The Clippers have used a balanced attack offensively. Hodges currently leads the team in scoring (18.3) and assists (4.9). The 2017-18 Clippers have seen significant early contributions from freshmen John Moore and Malloy, both of whom are averaging near 30 minutes per contest. Reynolds is currently leading the NWAC in rebounds per game at 12.5 and has been a double digit scorer averaging just under 12 points through 11 games.

The Clippers will continue their road heavy schedule at the Clackamas Holiday Tournament next week. 2017 is the first year the Clippers have been invited to compete in the eight-team tournament, which includes a strong field of teams representing all four regions of the NWAC. "This tournament is loaded with good teams, as of right now the teams in the field combine for a 56-27 record, and our side of the tournament is 30-12. Hopefully we can continue to grow and all these tough road games will strengthen our team for West Region play in January," said Coach Landon. The Clippers will open the Clackamas Holiday Invitational at 12:00pm on December 28th against Linn Benton CC, followed by Peninsula College the 29th at 3:00pm and then another matinee against Yakima Valley College at 12:00pm on the 30th.
