Zach Smith was named Head Men's Basketball Coach and Educational Planner on May 16th, 2022.

Before SPSCC, Smith spent four seasons as an Assistant Men's Basketball Coach at Northwest University (NU) in Kirkland, Washington. He completed his Bachelor's degree in Health and Fitness/Business Management in 2016 and a Master's of Education in Athletic Leadership in 2022.

Smith played collegiately at Montana Western for three seasons before playing his final season at Northwest University. Smith was a team captain and started 30 of 31 games for NU. Additionally, he finished his senior campaign ranked 4th in the nation in 3-point percentage (47%).

Smith went on to compete professionally, playing one season for Anzola Basket in Bologna, Italy. During his time overseas, Zach coached youth teams for Anzola Basket Club and volunteered his time teaching English to young children in the community.

Additionally, he has five years of coaching experience as a Master Teacher for NBC Camps. Zach spent his summers traveling to Alaska, Oregon, Idaho, and Washington coaching youth camps. Zach also spent two months in Beijing, China coaching camps for Soaring International.

2022-23
In his first season at the helm, Zach Smith led the Clippers back to the NWAC tournament for the first time since 2021. The Clippers' tournament run was on the back of their stout defense, which boasted multiple top-10 rankings. Their 72.6 points per game allowed ranked fifth in the NWAC, and their opponents' three-point field goal percentage (30.7%) ranked 6th. In addition to their success on the court, Smith's Clippers posted a 3.2+ GPA in each of the three terms during the 2022-23 academic year.
