Olympia, WA- The Northwest Athletic Conference (NWAC), in consultation with the men's and women's basketball committees, representatives from the NWAC Sports Medicine Advisory Committee (SMAC), and the NWAC Executive Board, has decided to delay the start of the men's and women's basketball league season from January 5, 2022, to the week of January 17, 2022.
The delay means that both the men's and women's basketball programs will open league play on January 19th against Highline Community College. The four contests that were displaced by the delay will be attached to the end of the schedule, with the Clippers now hosting Tacoma Community College on February 26th.
According to SPSCC Athletic Director Vernell Willingham, "Pushing the start of league play back to the week of January 17th, gives us the best chance to keep our student-athletes, the campus community, and local community as safe as possible." An updated schedule will be released in the coming days.
