South Puget Sound Community College would like to congratulate Clipper Men's Basketball student-athletes Marcus Lawson, Quincy Linton, and Nehemiah Pollard on receiving NWAC West Region accolades. Sophomore Guard Nehemiah Pollard was named to the First Team, Sophomore Guard/Forward Marcus Lawson received a nod to the Second Team, and Sophomore Point Guard Quincy Linton was recognized as a Second Team and All-Defensive Team standout.
Nehemiah Pollard led the team with an average of 15.6 points per game (ppg). Pollard also averaged 6.2 rebounds per game (rpg) and 2.1 assists per game (apg) for the year and finished 10th overall in total three-pointers made (69).
"Nehemiah was close to getting that Player of the Year award this year and his offseason transformation got him to this point. He worked his butt off; did a lot of good things with his body and mind and came back really solid. His ability to shoot the ball and he does so many things on the basketball court that not many others can do. I'm proud of his consistency; he truly is an everyday type of guy," praised Head Coach Zach Smith.
Marcus Lawson finished the year with averages of 11.6 ppg, 4.9 rpg, 1.9 apg, contributing greatly to the team's success for the year.
"Marcus is a hooper. He's a good basketball player. We've come a long way in his basketball IQ, but his natural ability to score and finish around the rim – along with expanded his ability to shoot the basketball - has benefitted him well this year. There's been some games where he's knocked down three or four three-pointers and changed the landscape of a game for us. He's a stud. He's going to make a four-year coach very happy next year," lauded Smith.
Quincy Linton vastly improved his overall game, finishing with averages of 9.3 ppg, 6.5 rpg, and 4.1 apg. Linton ended the year eighth overall in defensive rebounds (162), seventh overall in total assists (120), and third overall in total steals (65).
"The kid does everything for us. He really is the engine behind everything that we do and he's a stat sheet stuffer. He can get you a triple-double on any given night because he shares the ball, rebounds, and he's aggressive. I'm glad that the coaches noticed his value because we are not in this position without Quincy Linton. He's a vocal leader, our team captain, and on the basketball court he elevates everybody else's effort and energy," said Smith.
Congrats on a fantastic year, gentlemen!
