SPSCC Hosts First-Ever Intercollegiate Golf Tournament

SPSCC Hosts First-Ever Intercollegiate Golf Tournament

South Puget Sound Community College (SPSCC) Golf continues to make history as they hosted the first-ever SPSCC Invitational Tournament at Tumwater Valley Golf Club. It was a great inaugural event with 56 athletes representing six schools competing (SPSCC, Skagit Valley, Southwestern Oregon, Centralia, Olympic, and Highline).

Southwestern Oregon (SWOCC) won both the men's and women's team titles with the SPSCC men taking second place — the team’s highest finish in a tournament.  The Clippers’ highest finisher was Freshman Braeden Salme in seventh place who shot a combined 153. The second highest finisher was Freshman Charlie Ancich, who shot 157 and tied for 12th. Sophomore Luke Fenner shot 158 and finished in a tie for 14th. Freshman Carter Dorenbosch finished in a tie for 20th with a combined score of 166. The combined score of 202 is an SPSCC school record for lowest combined team total.

The women's team also competed well and was led by Freshmen Audrey Williams, who took 13th, and Emilee Anderson, who finished in 14th. Sophomore Grace Hurley completed her golfing career at SPSCC finishing in 19th place. We wish Grace the best of luck in the future and appreciate her leadership and celebrate her qualifying last year for the NWAC Golf Championships!

This was the final match for the fall; the golf season will continue in the spring with the Columbia Basin Invitational in April. This fall was a very successful season for the Clippers as Fenner is currently the No. 1 ranked player in the NWAC and the Clipper Men's team sits in 5th place in the conference overall. Also, the women's team has gained valuable experience and will be ready for the spring campaign in 2025.
