Clippers Play #2 Walla Walla To A Draw

Lacey, WASH. - Facing their second ranked opponent in the last three matches, the Clipper Men's Soccer team battled with the visiting Walla Walla Community College Warriors. Walla Walla, ranked #2 in the NWAC Coach's preseason poll, following a one-goal loss in the 2022 NWAC Soccer Championship match, brought the fight to the Clippers early. The match was physical from the opening touch as the two teams combined for 16 fouls.

Coach Sampson praised his team's "strong effort" and highlighted the Clipper's backline play for their ability to contain their opponent and problem-solve. An area of improvement for the Clippers is their execution in set pieces, according to Sampson.

Sophomore Antheny Leal showcased his technical skill in the midfield throughout the match, keeping defenders off balance and creating for the Clippers. Leal's midfield play combined well with Masayoshi Tanaka's work rate and ability to maintain his composure while he faced pressure from the Warrior's defense.

6'7" German import Joscha Schulte-Holtey towered over the Warrior defenders and used his surprising quickness to make quick turns with the ball and attack the Walla Walla defense. Once South Puget Sound finds more rhythm on offense, seeing Schulte-Holtey on the receiving end of crosses will be exciting!

There is renewed optimism as the Clippers played to a tie with the defending NWAC runner-up this early in the season.
