Late Goal Gets Win on Sophomore Day

The Clipper Men's Soccer team hosted Pierce College on Saturday while they celebrated their 9 sophomores. After controlling much of the possession in the first half, the Clippers went into halftime tied 0-0. SPSCC had multiple opportunities inside the box in the half but couldn't convert those to goals. Though they had 14 shots in the game, only 5 of them landed on frame. But one goal was all they needed to secure the win as keepers Camil Pascual and Hayden Sciera combined for the shutout in the net.

The second half remained even and looked like it was tipping in favor of the Clippers when freshman Joscha Shulte-Holtey had a free kick at the top of the penalty box in the 81st minute but it just barely went wide. Less than two minutes later though, sophomore forward Alonzo Ogaldez got free on the left side and capped off his SPSCC career with the game winning goal.

In head coach Max Sampson's first year at the helm, the Clippers finished with a 6-9-4 overall record, doubling their win total from a year ago. They finished 5-7-3 in conference play, earning them a 4th place finish in the West Region. "I'm proud of the way these men battled all season and adapted to a new style," said Coach Sampson. "I want to thank our sophomores for providing great leadership and I am excited to see this freshman class grow next season."

The Clippers graduate sophomores Samuel Krusi, Antheny Leal, Adrian Erdahl, Alonzo Ogaldez, Bryce Mizoguchi, James Chaffee, Erik Vasquez and Luke Degon. They will keep a good sized freshman class coming back next year though.
