South Puget Sound Community College (SPSCC) congratulates sophomore midfielder, and McMinnville, Oregon native, Erik Olvera on being named Defensive Player of the Week for Men's Soccer for the week of Sept. 23-29 by the Northwest Athletic Conference (NWAC).
"What's interesting is Erik has had much better link-loss in other games, but today whenever the guy took a risk it seemed to workout for us. I am glad he did!" Men's Soccer Head Coach Max Sampson told the NWAC. "He is one of those unsung heroes who enjoys the hard work to improve and drives the group at training. Often times he will arrive before me at practice and will be banging a ball against a wall."
Olvera had a fantastic game against Centralia on Sept. 28, assisting on all three Clippers goals to defeat the Blazers 3-2. The highlight of the game was his scintillating cross from a set piece to assist on Alex Canning's game-winning goal.
Olvera also had a monster game on defense, hence the honor for the week, putting the pressure on the Centralia players and coming up with clutch blocks and clearances that helped win the game for the Clippers.
