SPSCC WBB Hosts NWAC Crossover

Olympia, WA- The South Puget Sound Women's Basketball program hosted the 2021 West Region NWAC Crossover tournament inside the Health and Wellness Center over the winter break. Teams from each of the NWAC's four regions gathered to battle for the tournament championship. 

 

South Puget Sound Community College (West) 

Peninsula College (North)

Columbia Basin College (East)

Clark College (South)

 

The tournament opened with SPSCC hosting North region powerhouse, Peninsula College. Despite double-double performances by Sharay Trotter and Payten Foster, the Clippers fell short 68-56. Game two of the tournament saw Columbia Basin face-off with Clark College. Columbia Basin won 62-56 using a balanced scoring attack which saw four of the five starters score in double figures. 

 

Day two of the tournament saw Clark College and Peninsula College do battle. Peninsula would come out with the victory behind Emilia Long's 23 points and seven steals. Next, South Puget Sound Community College would host Columbia Basin College. The Clippers would rebound from the previous night's defeat by trouncing the visiting Hawks by 13 points. SPSCC used a 23-8 second quarter to build a lead and cruise to the victory. Freshman Sharay Trotter led the way with 23 points and four rebounds. 

 

The final day of the crossover opened with Peninsula College securing the tournament championship by defeating Columbia Basin 76-65. Emilia Long would again lead the Pirates in both scoring (27) and steals (4). The day closed with the SPSCC Clippers hosting Clark College. The Clippers got off to a slow start and were forced to play from behind for most of the contest. Despite the early deficit, SPSCC outscored the Penguins 21-17 in the fourth quarter en route to a 72-66 win for the Penguins.
