Clippers Sweep Opening Weekend Tournament

PORTLAND, Ore. - South Puget Sound Women's Basketball opened the 2022-23 campaign with a three-game trip to Portland, Oregon, for the Harold C. Williams Invitational hosted by Portland Community College.

The Clippers opened the season with a matchup against Olympic College from the NWAC's north region. Olympic jumped out to an early lead and headed into halftime with a 37-20 lead. However, whatever adjustments Coach Vining made at halftime were the right ones. The Clippers erased the deficit in the third quarter and would take the season-opening contest 73-67. Sophomore Brandie Tobin played an all-around game; in addition to 16 points, she posted team-highs in rebounds, assists, and steals.

The second night of the Harold C. Williams Invitational saw the Clippers face off with Mount Hood Community College. South Puget Sound took control of the game early, led by Payten Foster's eight points in the opening quarter. The Clippers used smothering defense and an inside attack to secure a 72-47 victory and move to 2-0 on the young season.

The Clippers would complete the road trip with an early 10:00 am match up with Edmonds College. Sophomore Sharay Trotter led the way for SPS with 28 points, and Emma Stadler controlled the glass with a game-high 13 rebounds! Although the game stayed close throughout, the Clippers outscored the Tritons by seven in the final quarter to secure the 66-58 victory.
