Clippers Fall to Green River Despite Trotter's Big Scoring Night

AUBURN, Wash. - In a matchup of the western region's top teams, the SPSCC Clippers visited the Green River College Gators. The Gators' lone loss in regional play came at the hands of the Clippers in early January as they lost 64-54. Green River, who struggled with the Clippers' pressure defense in the first matchup, were prepared this time and capitalized off transition opportunities to take a five-point lead in the first quarter. Unfortunately, the Clippers' offense sputtered in the opening quarter as they connected on six of their twenty field goal attempts. The second quarter saw the Clippers' offensive woes continue as they turned the ball over nine times and converted only two field goal attempts. Green River capitalized on this and took an 18-point lead into halftime.

South Puget Sound opened the second half with a renewed focus and energy, which helped them score twenty-two points in the quarter and cut the lead down to ten entering the final quarter. The fourth quarter saw Sharay Trotter take charge, scoring 13 of her game-high 26 points, including a furry in the final minutes as the Clippers cut the lead to six. However, green River converted from the foul line late and held on to win 76-66.
