The Clipper Women's Basketball Team came off their bye week with a new spark of energy and it definitely showed as they are back in the win column after a dominating performance that helped them decisively defeat Tacoma by a score of 74-37.
"Having our bye was nice to get a reset and refresh. I think it was nice to be able to come out of there and have an opportunity to play a team where we built momentum back up. But also, we faced a little adversity as a team; we're learning new roles and we're seeing how that pushes us forward," said Head Coach Darah Vining.
Vining continued, "Tacoma tested us in some of those moments and we were able to try new things that we wanted to be able to do. I think it's going to give us that momentum to be able to push forward and finish the season. It's going to take all of us to push through and finish the season strong to do something special."
The Lady Clips got off to a hot start in the first quarter as they were able to hold the Titans to only four points in the quarter, compared to their 24. The Titans put up more of a fight in the second quarter to reduce the Clippers' lead to 17 at the half. But it was all Clippers the rest of the way as they really opened up the game and WBB was able to hold the Titans to another single-digit point total in the fourth quarter for the 37-point win.
Once again, it was a good shooting night for the ladies as they finished the night with a 42% efficiency from the field. Additionally, the Clips cleaned up the glass well, as they tend to do, ending with a +28-rebound differential against the Titans. This set up the duo of Jaynee Tanner and Taylor Teeple (and others) to score in the key, with the Clippers scoring over 50% of their points in the paint.
Tanner had herself quite the performance, finishing with 27 points and 12 rebounds for her 18th double-double of the year. WBB's other big, Teeple, also finished the game with a double-double (her 11th of the year) with 18 points and 15 boards.
Sophomore Guard/Forward Vy Tran said about the big win against Tacoma, "It feels great. It brought our rhythm back and we learned lessons after the Green River game. One of those lessons was to keep moving forward and we try and get better every single game. It's definitely a big win as it gets us back on track."
The Lady Clippers hit the road on Wednesday, Feb. 12 to take on Highline before finishing the week with a trip to Longview to face-off against heated rival Lower Columbia on Saturday, Feb. 15. For more information, be sure to visit www.spsccathletics.com.
