South Puget Sound Community College is proud to recognize the Clipper Women's Basketball student-athletes Bryten Gumke, Jaynee Tanner, Taylor Teeple, and Vy Tran on receiving NWAC West Region accolades. Sophomore Forward/Center Taylor Teeple was named to the First Team, Sophmores Bryten Gumke and Vy Tran were named to the Second Team, and Freshman Forward/Center Jaynee Tanner received a slew of accolades winning Co-Freshman of the Year, First Team recognition, and All-Defensive Team honors.

Clipper Women's Head Coach Darah Vining had nothing but praise for her student-athletes and emphasized the importance of the team dynamic that helped pave the way for these individual awards. "I'm very proud of them, but without the team that we have, all four of those young ladies do not get the rewards that they do," said Coach Vining.

Jaynee Tanner had a banner year in her first year with the Clippers averaging 14.1 points per game (ppg), 12.2 rebounds per game (rpg), and 2 assists per game (apg). Tanner finished in third in the league in field goal percentage (54.5%), first in offensive rebounds (149), second in defensive and total rebounds (217 and 366 respectively), and third in rpg (12.2).

"This is a testament to the type of young woman she is," said Coach Vining. "Jaynee is one of our leaders and captains. She is one of the hardest working athletes I've ever seen. Coaches can't vote for their own players so to be able to see that the league has acknowledged what she is doing and what's to come, I think it's an amazing acknowledgement for her.

Taylor Teeple also really stepped it up this year with averages of 17.1 ppg, 9.7 rpg, and 2.5 apg. Teeple was fifth in the league overall intotal field goals made, fourth in defensive rebounds (194), fifth in total boards (281), sixth in rpg (9.7), fifth in total points scored (496), and eighth in ppg (17.1).

"We are not the high-caliber team that we are without Taylor. She is definitely our MVP and our player that keeps us in a lot of games. She works very hard and is very skilled. As a sophomore, she brings a veteran experience and having her share that with our team has only helped us exceed and take off to be at this position that we are in," said Vining about Teeple.

The dynamic Spokane-based duo of Bryten Gumke and Vy Tran had a fantastic year with Gumke averaging 6.6 ppg, 2.4 rpg, and 2.8 apg —finishing in 12th overall in three-point percentage (35.4%). Tran ended the year with 8.3 ppg, 4.9 rpg, and 1.1 apg averages for the year.

"These two really embody what Clipper Women's Basketball is about. Their legacies in our program for the past two years will be talked about for a while. The way they are able to be unselfish, put others before themselves, and everything beyond the basketball court is truly a testament to who they are. It's an exciting and humbling surprise to see them on that Second Team list," mentioned Vining about Gumke and Tran, two sophomore players that have been with SPSCC their entire collegiate career so far.

Congratulations ladies on a fantastic year!
