It has been a difficult year for the Clipper Women’s Soccer so far. The team has won only one game in the season so far and goals have come scare to the squad.
Since starting conference play, the Clipper ladies have found the net only two times by the way of Ailah Johnson in their first game against Centralia and Crystal Carriedo in their most recent game against Highline.
But, despite all of this string of bad results for the ladies, they stay positive and try to play the game to get results.
“I think we’ve definitely improved, especially since last game, and we keep getting better week by week and game by game,” said sophomore Goalkeeper Jenna Browse after the game against Highline.
The results on the scoresheet might not reflect it, but the results on the field are indicative of Browse’s thoughts about the team. The passing looks more fluid, the pressure on the opposition’s attack has increased, the attacking yields more chances on net.
That was evidenced by Carriedo’s goal in the 87th minute against Highline. Some great passing from the Clippers’ midfield found Carriedo at the top of the box, which she neatly placed right under the bar and past the Highline goalkeeper for the Clips’ only goal of the game.
“It’s just a learning process still and I feel like we have a lot of room for improvement. I think we can get there towards the end of the season,” said Browse when asked about the team’s performance after the Highline match. “Everyone’s just trying to stay positive and I think that the goal turned things around, even though there were a few minutes left [near] the end game.”
The Clipper Women’s Soccer team SPSCC will host Tacoma on Wednesday Oct. 9 at 1 PM. All home games are played at the regional athletic complex in Lacey, Washington. Admission is free.
