Clippers Battle Red Devils

The Clipper Volleyball team hosted the Lower Columbia Red Devils on Friday night. Lower Columbia came into the match in second place of the West Region while SPSCC currently sits in 4th place. The Clippers came out strong to start the first set, socring 3 of the first 4 points. But then the Red Devils went on a run forcing a timeout by Coach Kuaea when the Clippers were down 5-11. The Red Devils continued strong after the timeout though. A glimmer of a comeback shone when the Clips scored 3 consecutive points, but Devils closed it out, winning set 1 by a score of 25-14.

The second set started off in similar fashion, with the Clippers earning 3 of the first 4 points. However, it was a different story after that. SPSCC went up 9-4 forcing a Lower Columbia timeout. The Clippers stayed in control for much of the set, but with the score at 23-15 the Red Devils went on a 6-0 run to battle back. The Clippers were able to close it out though on a kill from Sophomore Amaia Cepeda, winning the set 25-23 and evening the match at 1-1.

SPSCC started strong yet again in the third set, getting up 11-6 before LCC went on a 5-0 run to tie it before the Clippers got on the board again. After that it was a back and forth set, tied at 17, 18, 19, and 20. But the Red Devils closed on a 5-1 run to win 25-21 and go up 2-1.

The fourth set was a battle all the way through. The score was tied a total of 10 times before LCC went on a 6-0 to get up 24-21 and win it 25-22, taking the match 3-1. The Clippers had 3 players with double digit kills – Hannah Bredeson (13), Katelyn White (11), and Katelynn Wakefield (10). Caelyn Marshall led the way with 34 assists. For the Red Devils, Paige Chinchen led with 15 kills and Samantha Farland had 14 assists.

Next up for the Clippers is their final regular season game and sophomore night as they host the Green River Gators on Wednesday, November 1 at 7:00pm. If the Clippers can take care of business in that match they will secure a spot in the NWAC Playoffs.
