Clippers Close out Regular Season with Sweep

The SPSCC volleyball team hosted the Green River Gators on Wednesday night. On a night celebrating their four sophomores, the Clippers sent their upperclassmen out in style. The Clippers will graduate sophomores Talynn Wheeler, Hannah Bredeson, Ariana Wilson, and Amaialyne Cepeda. But their volleyball career at SPSCC isn't over yet.

With the win, the Clippers officially earned a spot in the NWAC playoffs. The trip to the post-season is the first in program history. "It has been so rewarding to see this program improve each and every year," said Head Coach Tusalava Kuaea. "I want to thank the amazing assistant coaches that have helped along the way, our administration for all of the support they have given our student-athletes, and of course, our fantastic student-athletes that we have had come through our program."

In the first set the Clippers got on the board early and maintained a steady lead throughout. SPSCC was up 18-8 forcing a Gator timeout but the Gators were unable to make enough changes as the Clippers went on to win the set 25-13 on a kill by Wilson. The second set had a few more errors by the Clippers but other than that went much the same way including ending up with the same final score of 25-13.

The Clippers took care of business again in the third set, wasting no time. They rattled off eight straight points behind a serving series from Bredeson and then Bredeson got the final kill of the match on her sophomore night to win the set 25-11 and sweep the Gators 3-0.

"These four have had a tremendous impact on this team and this campus. I am so proud of all of the work they have done on and off the court and so excited to be able to get this playoff experience with them" Kuaea said of her sophomore class.

The Clippers finish the regular season 6-6 in conference and 11-13 overall. Up next for the Clippers as they head into post-season play is a regional match-up against Linn-Benton, the number one seed from the South region who are undefeated this year. The Clippers will head on the road to face the Roadrunners on Saturday, November 11.
