The Clipper Volleyball team are set to play their last home game of the season where they will celebrate the sophomores that are graduating this season.
The Clippers are energized after a crucial and thrilling win against Tacoma, which went the distance and culminated in a five-set win. The game was back and forth the whole time and just when the Clips looked like they had their backs against the wall, they were able to come out swinging and land a knockout punch to beat the Titans.
Now, the Clippers are set to face Centralia in a very important match up that carries significant playoff implications for the squad. Although not necessarily a win-and-in game, as the Clippers await other results from matchups involving Pierce and Tacoma, this game carries the weight of one. With a win against Centralia, the Clippers basically are in command of the second spot in the West Region.
"Our team mentality [is that] we are going to go in hard, we are going to be disciplined. We've studied our film so we are going to remember what we need to do by studying. We're trying to put our foot on the gas pedal and not hit the brakes until the game is done," said Freshman Setter Matagi Maugaotega when asked about the importance of this game.
Along with the importance of this game when it comes to the playoff picture, this game has a sentimental importance as it's the Clipper Volleyball sophomores' last game at the SPSCC gym. Sophomores Caelyn Marshall, Katelyn White, Katelynn Wakefield, Kiana Morrow, Paige Wallace, and Lexie Villa are the graduates for this season and they have had a big impact on the freshman players. Just ask Maugaotega about their impact.
"I love my sophomores. Wakey [Wakefield], Katie White, Brooklynn, and CJ [Marshall]. CJ, she's like my mentor, she was before me here setting. And she had to do it all alone so I give her props for that because I don't think I could be the only setter on the team. This year, sharing the load with her has been really fun and she's taught me a lot."
