Clipper Volleyball Sweeps Gators on ‘Dig Pink’ Night

Clipper Volleyball played for each other and played for a cause on Dig Pink Night, defeating the Green River Gators — sweeping them in straight sets (25-18, 25-14, 25-21).

This was a crucial win for the Clips as they needed a victory after two consecutive losses against Highline and Lower Columbia. With this victory, the Clips improved to 4-4 in conference play and they currently sit in fourth place in the West Region table.

"I think it will be a big momentum change for us, for sure," said Sophomore Outside Hitter, Katelyn White. "[It was] a big ego boost; we really needed that win to keep going. It's really going to help our next games."

It was a big game for White, leading the team with 12 kills for the game. Fellow Sophomore Outside Hitter, Brooklyn Thesenvitz, was second in kills as she had 10 in the match.

As the end of the season draws ever near, the schedule for the Clipper Volleyball team is set so that they will be the masters of their fate. With big games against teams that are battling for playoff position — like Tacoma, Centralia, and Lower Columbia — the ladies know that they will have to win out the rest of the season if they want to be in a favorable spot come tournament time.

The Clips are up for this challenge, however, as White talked about how the team is preparing for the tough schedule ahead. "We're working out, getting a lot of time in the gym. We are taking practices seriously, but we're also having a lot of fun. Fun is a big thing for us, it makes us play better."

"If we have fun, we play good," concluded White with a smile.

Clipper Volleyball plays their next game on Oct. 23 against Pierce in Lakewood before coming home on Friday, Oct. 25 against Centralia at SPSCC's Health and Wellness Center's Main Gym (Building 31). Tickets are $10 for adults, $8 for seniors (55+) and military, and free for SPSCC students and staff and children under the age of 12.
