Clippers Earn First Victory of the Season

OLYMPIA, Wash. - Men's basketball entered Wednesday night's match-up with Olympic College looking to earn their first victory of the young season. The Clippers used a mix of hot shooting and ball movement to build a four-point lead going into the halftime break. However, turnovers and poor defensive rebounding would allow the Rangers to climb back into the ball game. Freshman Lorenzo Moore was the steady force the Clippers needed to push through and withstand the Ranger's hot second-half shooting. Moore finished the ball game with a team-high 21 points and 14 rebounds in his best game of the season. In addition to Moore's stat line, the Clippers counted on the steady shooting of Jason Montes and Jazen Guillory, who converted on 20 of 21 free throw attempts combined.

Montes showed his continued growth as a player, which has been vital. He led the team with six assists and finished second in rebounds with seven. South Puget Sound struggled to rebound the ball late in the game as Olympic's guards warmed up from three-point range, but in the end, SPSCC was able to pull out the victory 96-87. Tonight's win marks the first for head coach Zach Smith who is in his first season with the Clippers.
