Clippers Open 2021-22 Season with Win at Home

The South Puget Sound Women's Basketball team played their first game in over a year on Friday night. After missing out on last season due to COVID, the Clippers opened their season with a home game against Skagit Valley.

The Clippers led from start to finish. While the Clippers were up by 20 points in the 3rd period, the Cardinals fought back and had the score within 5, but the Clippers held them off to win by a score of 77-67. SPS shot 54% on the game while holding the SVC to 40%.

Sharay Trotter led the Clippers with 23 points, while Payten Foster and Bella Hemmingson joined Trotter in double digits with 13 and 12. Trotter also led with 4 blocks and Foster led 5 steals. Guard Kayla Jackson dished out 6 assists and Center Jennie Goldsberry cleaned up the class with 8 defensive rebounds.

Grace Shaddle and Madison Plautz were the biggest offensive threats for the Cardinals with 21 and 18 points.

"I'm proud of our team to come out and play the way they did after not playing a real game for so long, that's hard to do" said head coach Darah Vining. "It's good to get that first win and they did a good job of holding out at the end to finish the game. We still have a lot to work on and we need to do a better job of taking care of the ball, but this is a good starting point for us." Vining got her first win as the head coach for the Clippers tonight.

The Clippers are back at home again on Monday when they host Shoreline at 6:00pm.
