Freshman guard Kayla Jackson scored 15 points, Brandie Tobin pulled down a career-high 10 rebounds and the South Puget Sound Community College (SPSCC) women's basketball team won for the fourth time over its last five games with a 60-54 victory over Green River College in a Northwest Athletic Conference West Region showdown at the Health & Wellness Center on Wednesday.

The Clippers (10-7 overall, 6-4 conference) also received 12 points from Sharay Trotter and 10 from Payten Foster as they swept the season series against the Gators (5-16, 4-7).

SPSCC got off to one of its best starts this season, opening the contest on a 14-0 run with Jackson ending the offensive burst by hitting a 3 with 3 1/2 minutes remaining in the first quarter. Green River missed its first 10 shots from the field and didn't get on the scoreboard until Abby Mundy connected on a free throw nearly 7 minutes into the game.

Defensively, the Clippers forced the Gators into eight first quarter turnovers while limiting Green River to just 7.1% shooting from the field (1 for 14) as they held an 18-3 lead.

South Puget Sound Community College, which never trailed in the contest, led 29-18 at the intermission and took its largest advantage at 47-29 on a Trotter 3 late in the third. The Gators were able to trim the deficit to 55-52 with 2:23 to play, but Jackson hit three free throws and Trotter sank two in the closing moments to put the game out of reach.

The Clippers held a commanding 48-27 edge in rebounds with Tobin's 10 boards leading the way. SPSCC also got eight rebounds from both Trotter, who also added a team-high five assists and six steals, and Jennie Goldsberry, and seven rebounds from Foster.

SPSCC closes out its regular season home slate on Saturday at 5:30 p.m. when SPSCC hosts conference-leading Lower Columbia College.
