The South Puget Sound Community College (SPSCC) women's basketball team posted one of the greatest offensive quarters in program history, but still fell short in the Sweet 16 of the Northwest Athletic Conferencetournament, losing to top-seeded Lane Community College, 96-81, at Everett Community College on Saturday, March 19.
SPSCC freshmen Sharay Trotter and Kayla Jackson combined to score 30 of their team's 39 fourth quarter points and the Clippers outscored the Titans, 73-72, over the final three quarters, but an early double-digit deficit proved to be too much for SPSCC to overcome as they finished the season with a record of 11-9.
Trotter matched her career-high with 27 points, while Jackson scored 14 of her 22 points in the final frame.
The Clippers, appearing in their first postseason game since 2016, got off to a chilly shooting start, missing 9 out of their 12 attempts from the field in the first quarter as the Lane opened the contest with a 24-8 lead.
Trailing 62-42 after three quarters, SPSCC shot a white-hot 72.2% (13 of 18) from the field in the fourth quarter with Jackson going 4 of 6 from 3-point territory, but it wasn't enough as the Titans improved their record to 27-0 this season with the victory, while winning their 34th consecutive game dating back to last year.
The Titans would make it 35 straight with a 99-55 win over Spokane the next day to advance to the NWAC Final Four.
Trotter, who also scored 27 points in a 63-57 win over Centralia College on February 23, capped her first year with the Clippers by registering her seventh 20-point game this season. She also had six steals, five assists and four rebounds against Lane.
SPSCC also received 9 points and a team-high 13 rebounds from freshman post Jennie Goldsberry, 9 points, 6 assists and 5 boards from Honey Let Padasdao and 7 points each from Payten Foster and Nikeshia King.
The Titans' depth was on full display as Lane held a commanding 53-16 advantage in bench points with three players scoring double figures led by Emma McKenney's team-high 23 points.
