Big Second Quarter Lifts Clippers

The Clark College Penguins held a 13-point lead over the Clippers midway through the first quarter on Sunday afternoon. But 3-pointers by freshman Bryten Gumke and Sophomore Kadance Blankers cut the lead to single digits and a big 3 by sophomore Amaialyne Cepada to end the quarter brought the Clippers within 5. The hot shooting continued into the second half helped along by freshman Alycia Loudermilk. After going 0-3 in the first half from deep, Loudermilk hit the first 3 of the quarter and followed it up with two more to give the Clippers their first lead of the game. Loudermilk had 13 points in the second quarter as the Clippers outpaced the Penguins 28-8 to take a 15 point lead into the half. The Clippers shot 50% from the field that quarter including 44% from 3 and a perfect 4-4 from the charity stripe.

SPSCC started the second half on a 9-0 run until Clark was able to play them evenly for the remainder of the quarter. The Penguins attempted a rally in the final stretch but the Clippers regained control to win convincingly by a score of 74-54. The Clippers had four players in double digits, lead by Loudermilk with 22 points. Blankers added 17, going 5-9 from 3-point land while freshman Emma Garcia had 13 and Gumke chipped in 11.
